What are the stages of work on the construction of the roof? What should I know?

Building a roof is a complicated process that requires knowledge, experience and accuracy from people doing this type of work. Regardless of what type of roof is being made, the whole thing takes a lot of time. In the case of a single-family house, it can be up to about one and a half months.

It is worth entrusting the construction of the roof to a team of experienced and proven carpenters and roofers. It is with them that the issue of the roof design should be discussed. This is made according to the client's specific preferences, taking into account the possibilities offered by the building.

Roof construction, i.e. work stages step by step
It is the aforementioned design that can be considered the first stage of roof construction. Due to the fact that the roof is an integral part of the building, it must be adapted to it in many respects. In addition to determining the structure, at this stage it should be known what type of covering will be used and what additional elements (e.g. windows, gutter strip, gutters) will be used. Having a ready project, the executive team (carpenters and roofers) can go to the actual job. It can be divided into several stages:

erection of a roof truss - the execution of a roof truss depends on its type (collar beam, rafter, purlin-collar beam or other). The roof truss has a direct impact on the stability and strength of the roof structure and takes into account both the dimensions of the building and the climatic loads (snow, wind) in a given region;
roof truss - when the truss structure is ready, go to the so-called foiling, i.e. covering its so-called roof foil, i.e. a vapor-permeable / windproof membrane. This is of great importance for the subsequent tightness of the roof;
Latin - this stage of work has an impact on the roof ventilation process. It consists in applying appropriate patches, i.e. special, long strips with dimensions usually 40 × 50 mm or 40x60 mm. They are installed transversely to the rafters;
installation of additional elements - windows, gutters, gutter flashing or other additional elements should also be installed at this stage of work. Particular attention should be paid to the installation of the gutter system, which later translates into proper water drainage;
laying the roofing - after installing all battens and additional elements, you can proceed to laying the roofing. Most often, metal tiles, steel or ceramic tiles are used for this. These materials are often chosen for their visual and durability qualities;
roof insulation - this is the final stage of work related to the construction of a new roof, of course, performed from the attic side in the form of inter-rafter and under-rafter thermal insulation layers. Not everyone decides to do it, but a properly insulated roof allows you to significantly reduce the subsequent costs of heating the house.

Roof insulation can also be performed on the rafters with the use of rigid PIR foam boards, but such a decision must be made in advance, and the installation of thermal insulation on the rafters should be the first step.
